The Nobel peace prize is an international prize which is warded annually by the Nobel committee according to guidelines laid down in Alfred Nobel's will. The peace prize is one of five prizes that have been awarded annually since 1901 for contributions in physics, chemistry, physiology or medicine, literature and peace. According to Nobel's will, the peace prize is to go to whoever shall have done the most or the best for fraternity between nations, for the reduction of armies and weapons, and for the promotion of peace.
The peace prize is presented annually in Oslo, Norway, in the presence of the king on December 10(the anniversary of Nobel's death).under the eyes of a watching world, the Nobel laureate receives three things: a diploma, a medal and a large sum of prize money.
The selection of Nobel prize winners is sometimes difficult and causes controversy, as the list of the nominees includes people who formerly used violent methods to settle problems and then later made non-violence attempt to achieve peace
